Stream finishing from OTEC
Stream finishing (SF) is the technology behind a whole new generation of mass finishing machines that are ideal for creating perfect surfaces. Stream finishing machines offer much greater processing power compared to previous processes. They can also smooth, deburr and round (e.g. Ra 0.4 to 0.1) workpieces in seconds in a single process, without damaging the workpiece contours.
In this new procedure, the workpieces are clamped in a holder and lowered into a rotating container filled with an abrasive or polishing medium. The workpieces rotate and are processed as the medium circulates around them. This helps achieve high-quality surfaces even in the smallest flutes, with roughness depths of Ra 0.01 µm. Stream finishing enables very short processing times, and offers both simple automation and high process reliability. The combination of multiple processes, speed and short cycle times makes stream finishing ideal for line production. The contact area ratios are also much better compared to conventional processes.
SF allows multiple processing steps to be performed very quickly in a single procedure. This means a workpiece can be deburred, rounded, smoothed and polished in sequence quickly and with no additional workload. A contour-controlled motion sequence makes it possible to target specific sections of a workpiece for particularly intensive processing. To ensure even abrasion across the entire workpiece, this motion occurs alongside standard processing and is automatically monitored. The machine's special design allows the flow angle of the abrasive or polishing medium to be adjusted. This enables control of material abrasion to micrometre level. Stream finishing technology is based on high-speed circulation of the abrasive or polishing medium. This generates powerful forces that make it possible to precisely process even the smallest and most difficult-to-reach recesses (grooves, flutes, etc.). The strong forces push the fine-grain polishing medium into the recesses to process them, enabling roughness depths of Ra 0.01 µm. This combination of high automation, powerful forces and quick workpiece switching during the procedure allow for fast and efficient workpiece processing with very short processing times.

Known as pulse finishing, this new development allows high-precision processing of components for highly sensitive areas like hydraulics, as well as for complex tools like drill bits, injection systems, gear wheels and camshafts. Pulse finishing is a mass finishing process with a higher abrasion rate.
Another big step forwards is the clamping system, which allows users to quickly change workpieces at the push of a button and is suitable for both wet and dry processing. Being able to mount three different workpiece lengths, each with the right immersion depth in the abrasive or polishing medium, is a huge advantage alongside the even processing and shorter process times.
